Skowron Family Generation III

Joseph J. Skowron

Joseph "Joe" Skowron was born in 1901 in Poland and died in 1989 in Youngstown, Ohio.

Sophie Skowron

Sophie was born in 1903 in Poland and died in 1977 in Youngstown(?).

John S. Skowron

John was born in 1906 in Monaca (?) Pennsylvania. He moved with his family to a farm outside of Youngstown, Ohio. He served in the army during World War II (at the age of 36!), seeing action during the Normandy Invasion (3rd wave at Omaha Beach), the push across France, the Battle of the Bulge, and the defeat of Germany. He was with the 56th Signal Battalion attached to V Corps. Shortly after the Battle of the Bulge, he met up with John Zines, who was serving with the 69th Infantry Division in the same area. After the war, John met and married Marie (maiden name?), who was a Czech nurse. John returned home and in 1947 Marie joined him where, for the next fifty years, they owned a farm outside of Salem, Ohio. John celebrated his 100th birthday in 2006 surrounded by family and army buddies (the kids!). He passed in 2007 in Salem.

Magdalina Skowron

Magdalina, like many children in the early 1900s, had a tragically brief life. She was born in 1908 and passed in 1911.

Helen Skowron

Helen also had a short life. She was born in 1909 and passed in 1911. This was not uncommon during this era, as the potential for disease and accident was always present. Many parents chose to have many children specifically because the mortality rate was so high, they needed to beat the odds for one to live to adulthood

Mary F. Skowron

Mary Skowron was born in 1912 and died in 2001.

Anna M. Skowron

Anna was born in 1913. She married John Zines, Jr. in 1938 and they had three children. Anna worked in a defense plant during World War II, and later as a department store clerk. However, anyone who knew her understands that she missed her true calling, as she was one of the greatest teachers I have ever met. She instilled a love of learning in everyone around her. Anna passed in Salem in 1998.

Carl S. Skowron

Carl was born in 1917. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, officially classified as a flight engineer on B-17s and B-29s. A man of keen intellect, he did his duty stateside, working primarily on the strike cameras carried by the heavy bombers of that era. Aerial photography was an emerging technology, and he helped to develop many of the techniques still used today. Later in life he helped develop a camera used in non-invasive surgery. He was a holder of several U.S. Patents in photography. Carl passed in 2000.

Frank T. Skowron

Frank was born in 1919. He served stateside with the Army Medical Corps during World War II. He lived the later part of his life in Ventura, California. He passed in 1994.

Walter E. Skowron

Walter (Walt) Skowron was born in 1921. He served with the Air Transport Command, 12th Air Force, during World War II. He was a crew chief (aircraft mechanic) on B-24 Liberators and any other plane that came through the maintenance and staging base in Dakar, Senegal. Leter in life he was an electrician. Walt passed in 1995.
