Skowron Family Generation II

According to Marie Skowron (wife of John Skowron Generation II), the Skowrons were also from the Galician area of present-day Poland and Ukraine. While at this time I am not sure of their town or city of origin, as you will see this family represented the mix of cultures typical for the area. We know that John, Anna, Joseph, and Sophie emigrated to the United States sometime prior to 1906. They settled in the Pittsburgh area, where John was born, and subsequently moved to a farm south of Youngstown. Any additional information would be appreciated. John and Anna Skowron

John Skowron

John Skowron was born in 1871 in Poland (town unknown) and died in 1926 in Salem, Ohio. According to Marie Skowron, the Skowrons were what we would now consider to be "middle class," as they were homebuilders.

Anna (Luchenko?) Skowron

Anna was born in 1875 in (town unknown). She was of Ukrainian heritage; we have a copy of her baptism record that shows that she was baptized on January 26, 1900. However, it will take someone fluent in Ukrainian to properly translate the document. Google does have its limitations! I do find it interesting that there are at least three languages present on Anna's baptism record: the official government writing is in Cyrillic (Ukrainian); the handwritten script appears to be in Polish; and some areas also have Latin (as it was as much a religious document as it was official to the state, this makes sense). The entry for her parents looks like the last name was Lushenko, but do not quote me on that, as trying to read cursive script in a foreign language is a chalenge! I hope I will be able to update this page soon, as Anna is part of the Ukrainian side of the family, of which we know very little. Anna passed away in Salem, Ohio in 1951.
